Cleaning & Periodontal
Regular dental cleanings and periodic oral exams are important in the prevention of gum disease, tooth decay, and other oral disorders. In addition to brushing and flossing thoroughly everyday, a professional dental cleaning every six months is recommended. Routine cleanings remove stains and tartar, prevent gum disease, and help in maintaining an optimum oral health.
Regular dental cleanings are performed by Dr. Eydelman and our registered dental hygienist. Any external deposits on the teeth like the tartar or stains are removed with the help of manual scalars or the ultrasonic machines. These ultrasonic machines use sound waves to loosen the hard deposits without causing any harm to the tooth. The teeth are polished following a thorough cleaning to make it difficult for plaque to adhere.
We provide topical fluoride applications to reduce the chance of tooth decay. Fluoride is a mineral that helps strengthen tooth enamel, resists tooth decay and promotes remineralization of tooth areas affected by early decay.
About 80% of Americans have some level of gum disease, but often, the early symptoms go unnoticed. Red, puffy, tender gums, or bleeding during brushing, can indicate gum disease. Left undetected and untreated, the condition will rapidly accelerate.
Gum disease, or periodontal disease, increases a person’s potential for stroke, heart attack, low-weight births, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, diabetes complications, and other overall health problems. Gum disease is also the primary cause of tooth loss for American adults. If you have gum disease, I’d like to talk with you about a non surgical, no-cut, treatment option that has proven highly effective for many of my patients.
